Mary Canel, Adult Nurse Practitioner, is trained in, and actively pursuing board certification in the application of Cosmetic Botox, Yeomen, Dysport, Juvederm, Restylane and facial contouring techniques. Mary advanced in her education from the level of Associate Degree Registered Nurse, (Portland Community College1982) to a Master of Science in Nursing degree from University of Texas Health Science Center Houston in 1992. While furthering her education, Mary's nursing career progressed over 10 years from specialty oncology inpatient and outpatient settings to the role of Clinical Cancer Detection Specialist at MD Anderson Cancer Center's Cancer Prevention and Detection Program. She strives to incorporate her multi-layered oncology experience into her role as primary health care provider at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) Abrons Student Health Center, and now as an entrepreneur in aesthetic enhancements and facial contouring.
A firm believer that day-by-day interactions with others contribute greatly to how we perceive ourselves in the world, Mary attributes her interest in aesthetics to unplanned benefits of "doing life." As a young university coed, she was surprised when a required Saint Louis University Art History course at the Museo del Prado turned into a captivating experience as she studied the evolution of artist technique in Renaissance paintings of the human face and body. The study of Conflict Management and Resolution leading to a Master of Arts in International and Organizational Conflict from UNCW in 2013, prompted her to take courses with International Peacekeepers at Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, as well as at the United Nations through Whitehead School of Diplomacy. Fluent in Spanish and Turkish languages, Mary has learned through Interaction with diverse cultures during her journeys that facial expressions, and even clothing styles, are often unspoken triggers for people to "act and react" in life. Inspirit, a Renaissance word meaning inspire, refresh, and enliven, is the vision Mary holds in her mind's eye as she embraces each client relationship. She recognizes the unique beauty of each individual, and uses aesthetic enhancements and gentle facial contouring to inspire a refreshened YOU to emerge.
